Have had my name listed for VR now for a couple of years and once again last night my shift manager tells me it has been blocked by royal mail. The reason is the Northern Ireland Mail Centre must provide a strategic plan to deal with the release of 23 redundancies. These redundancies have been signed off by the mail centre plant manager and his boss and also the union. Want to know is this just happening in Northern Ireland and can royal mail do this even though the agreement is already signed and up on the CWU notice board.

It has happened at Mount Pleasant MC in the past. VRs advertised, applied for, quotations given, agreed, and then put on hold for 'operational reasons'.
If I remember correctly it took about 10 months before they were finally released. Until applicants get their letter with 'Last Day of Service' date, nothing is guaranteed, and VR offers can be withdrawn.
Unfortunately it makes it difficult for those who want to take VR to make any plans, or even know if the VRs are going to go through, but Royal Mail senior managers don't care about that.
