• Royal Mail have started taking executive
action by removing overtime, ceasing SA and
cutting belated delivery hourage.
• In addition, we have had management offering
voluntary redundancies without any discussions
with the CWU and without agreement.
• Royal Mail has stopped recruiting and want to
reduce all FTC staff to 24 hours despite most
of these individuals having worked over two
years with Royal Mail and being eligible under
the Agenda for Growth Agreement to a
permanent full time contract.
• Royal Mail are also reviewing FTC’s office by
office, with a view to ceasing these contracts
based on traffic decline.
• Royal Mail is also proposing to cut any extra
hours a part time worker has been working
above their contract regardless of whether
they have been working these hours for the
last few years and should have been reviewed
under the Job Security Agreement and now
the Agenda for Growth.

In other words the AFG agreement no longer or ever did exist as understood and sold to the members.

All CWU Branches in London know we have to
tackle the impact from competition and the
demands from Ofcom for more efficiency.

In layman terms what exactly are the demands for more efficiency from OFCOM.Is the idea that increased efficiency will offset cherry picking and save jobs :left:

Additionally, the answer to the reduction in traffic
is not just to cut jobs and earnings and expect
people in offices to work harder for less overall
take home pay.

However if someone is currently only working 30 of the 39 hours they are getting paid for and are also getting 4 hours docket/week for "belated delivery hourage" then the answer is to expect them to work harder with a reduction in earnings.
Perhaps if the other national agreements had been implemented, especially the one about working all your paid hours, then things wouldn't be so difficult now.

You cannot protect jobs if the work isn't there.
By attempting to protect jobs/hours that don't exist everybody's jobs are at risk and probably the very existence of the CWU.

The message in the comms is that we are up for change but it can't just be on the basis of what Royal Mail"s terms. This is why we are clearly stating we up for discussions on efficiency but there has to be a productivity scheme when the staff share in the saving for having to work harder.

No one is saying if traffic has dropped then there will be hours being proposed to come out but we have not signed up to any agreement which says we just agree to what Royal Mail wants. To the contrary we have signed up to mutual interest solutions. This is why we in London are prepared to stand up and not agree unless their is an incentive scheme and a strategy for dealing with the issues we face.

Perhaps if other places took the same position we would get an agreement rather then just what Royal Mail wants hence them laying off the FTCs in the North.

But you surely understand that it sounds as if you want an incentive scheme for working all your paid hours?

And as you yourself pointed out, there are problems with agreeing an incentive scheme while RM/CWU are complaining to Ofcom that the USO is under threat.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Clash Royal Mail pay a delivery supplement for people working their hours , Royal Mail pay the Christmas bonus for working their hours. History in Royal Mail has shown whether that be IWM , RULC , Delivery Remunetation , traffic related schemes , PBS or 50/50 you only get improved productivity if staff get a share in the savings arising from working harder in their duty time.

Let's look at what Royal Mail wants they want differt numbers of walks across the week less on Monday and Tuesday more on weds and the rest of weeks. They want a lower model week so the head count reduces and they want different ammount of duties across the year depending on traffic.

Well if they want improvements in productivity then where is the share for employees and what do we want.

Postman Royal Mail want to change loads of things it's only the CWU in those areas who are willing to say no which is stopping them they openly say that they will go and introduce it in other areas because they know no one will fight it and sadly that is true in some areas. However that is not a recent problem it's been like that for a couple of decades. You only get something of Royal Mail if you defend yourselves and we have been able to do that effectively for sometime it they would have taken on some of those offices who are still on 4 day weeks and have not done a BT revision

In your world Clash does this apply to management and directors too? If there is less mail then they want less workers, ok we've lost 50,000 on the front line we have done our share already. Managers are going through a small cull but they have a long way to go yet. Directors hmmm. How many have we gotten rid of over the years? How many have worked all their hours? How many have gotten bonuses far greater than anyone at ground level?

"You cannot protect jobs if the work isn't there."

I beg to differ..... until we start culling directors too! But you bend over and take it Clash, like you always do! :speak to the hand

Difficult to know how to respond to a debating style that resorts to homophobic personal abuse.
I could ask you to elaborate on this plan to protect jobs without any work (it always reminds me of the bloke in Porridge who was the swimming pool attendant) but I'm not really interested in people parking up at B&Q for an hour or being allowed to go home 2 hours early because they are the gaffer's favourite little blue eyed boy.

And it's good to know the London Division regards Yorkshire as a weak area.
Must be that union solidarity I've heard so much about.

We should not even be talking about incentive plans. We are very well paid for what we do and the company is in decline and some of us (not just the usual suspects) are now actually working less hours than we are paid. Its a shock to my system to be finishing really early these days.

Lets just start using the PDA to start and finish when we are supposed; and then we can also be more flexible even perhaps banking hours where it might be necessary or where it works (MC for starters - they do some form of banking anyways; people are allowed to go early sometimes and some days they work over for more days off or later starts).

Its not about doing all that RM wants but protecting all our jobs and staying ahead of the competition and maintaining profits. RM is definitely in decline and it is not just the share price that says so but RM's prospect is not that of growth in the next few years.

Like RM said, even standing still will require a lot of sacrifices and more cuts and job losses. OT is a start and managers actually managing the resources better to reduce underutilisation and OT will also help. I still managed to do OT today and still finish within my contractual time - that is weird but that is due to absence and the fact that we are carrying at least 3 (PT) vacancies.

RM and management will have to find a way of making everyone in delivery flexible and totally micro manage traffic in such a way as to be able to deploy staff to cover walks without OT - it could be merging 3 walks for 2 people or different varieties of working such as star-busting and so on... Use of vetted agency staff in delivery...

This is our company and we should all want it to succeed without resorting to narrow selfish interests. Incentive just to do one's job is not on - that is for bankers :left:

Forgive me Clash I forgot to put it through the PC filter for you, I know you do like everyone to be so very PC!

As for protecting jobs without any work well unless you believe all the hype from management over the years e.g. Mail figures dropping through the floor then there is plenty of work about. Certainly in my office that's for sure. No idea what you mean about going home early being a "gaffer's favourite little blue eyed boy" is that something you do regularly? I guess that would explain your keen adoption of management views and policies? :hmmmm
