Can a former post office employee carry over seniority RM?

It's been bugging me for a while but I was above a girl at work on seniority and she claimed she should hae her post office service counted and now she is above me.

The way forward agreement states this....
5 In those cases where an existing Post Office employee moves between or into either the operational support or operational postal grades, their seniority will be based on the date of entry to the grade concerned. However exceptionally where an employee moves into Royal Mail on level transfer from a grade in another business that is broadly equivalent (for example, a Parcelforce or Cashco postal employee moving into the operational postal grade or a Romec Cleaner moving into the operational support grade), then previous service in that business on that grade will count towards seniority.

There's more to the agreement to which I read as post office staff are not classed as the same grade as a postman but a parcelforce employee would and so the pos office staff would start their seniority from the date of Royal Mail entrance.

It also says that post office service can be used to determine who should be higher of 2 people start on the same day.

Out of interest, did this happen when the Post office was still part of Royal Mail?

Yeah about 6 years ago, didn't know if there's anything changed sice that way forward agreement.

If he/she has left the business and resumes within a period of time, I have heard 6 months mentioned, I think their seniority pauses, the same happens if you take a career break, your seniority stops until you resume employment at a lower position than they would have done if they have continued working, the time taken is deducted from their seniority.

I think a different rule apply if you have started before 2000, its a complicated issue. on one hand they are under the Royal Mail umbrella, yet they have also been split into component parts independent of Royal Mail as a stand alone company. you would need to consult HR and your rep.
