Forty bursaries are available from the Post Office Orphans Benevolent Institution (POOBI) this year – its highest number ever.

The bursaries, worth £1,200 a year for up to three years, are available for sons and daughters of Royal Mail and Post Office Limited employees to help with university costs.

There’s also an additional £300 grant this year for people heading off to university for the first time, to help with the initial costs students face.

The bursaries don’t need to be repaid providing the terms and conditions are met.

As well as university costs, bursaries are also available for vocational training under POOBI’s apprenticeship scheme, and there’s a £600 Rising Stars grant for young people with a talent in dance, drama, music, film or sport.
