Im afraid this is often the case for a lot of p/t staff and newish starters. Personally I think seniority is wrong and this is the main reason part timers get a raw deal[seniority]... and I think it really doesn't belong in a modern workplace. I know that a lot of the"old school brigade" will argue ...this but its wrong. It gives a feeling of "them and us"

If your day off falls on a bank holiday then you will be given a credit against it. The fact your day off was moved was a management decision .im not sure why you blame the seniority system for this.

You have the right to book the day as overtime instead of a day in lieu, many doms deny this but I can provide you all the agreements you need plus a confirmation email from moya that mangers should allow you the option to book overtime if your rest days falls on a bank holiday. This shook our office up and stopped managers giving them all bank holiday off because most of them asked for the money.

With your help,I have also started a sh1te storm, thanks coxie.

Our managers in finally agreed this week that it was there in black and white and we now have the option to book docket for bank holidays.

If you need anymore I can send you everything moya's team told me, the managers hated it that I went to moya but I gave them numerous chances to take me seriously. Send me a pm if you want it.

Our rep has gone into disagreement over the dsm's refusal to acknowledge this agreement, as for giving all the p/t's bank holiday monday off then surely it messes up the whole weeks programme due to cover duties etc. seems a ridiculous thing to do.

This was what moya emailed me.

Good afternoon

Thank you for your email to Moya’s Just Say It site. I am part of this team and have been asked to reply.

Our rules on bank holidays have been around for years and the 17 July joint statement was produced to reassure people that the introduction of the new People System Portal (PSP) would make no changes to agreed terms and conditions. Looking back at the joint statement I see the section on bank holidays was not as clear as it could have been and I understand why you’ve asked your question.

What should happen according to the rules which PSP has not changed is that when a bank holiday falls on someone’s rest day they should be given another day off that week. If that is not operationally sensible or is impracticable the people involved can have a day added to their holiday allocation or claim the hours as normal weekday overtime.

Without your details I am unable to ask your Delivery Office Manager to talk with you and your colleagues to clarify how these arrangements will work on future bank holidays. The benefit of our bank holidays is that they give everyone additional time off so when someone does not take their bank holiday due to it coinciding with their rest day the norm should be to try to give them another day off. Where that is impossible they can take the time as normal overtime which of course would not give them time off which was the intention of the bank holiday.

I hope my email has provided you with the clarification you were seeking and if I can help further please contact me.

Kind regards

Jane

we had a meeting a few weeks ago about this situation, onion rep said from now they'll be looking :left: at reserves not automatically given BH off and be able to offer more summer holidays through lapsing to those who have built up loads only to be refused holidays later,
straight away 1 lad who'd carried over around 10 days couldn't book anything off except an odd winter week and today they've altered our next weds shift to mirror Tues, (all this agreed by onion) because there's not enough work for us BUT all leave reserves given monday off because there's not enough staff? :arrrghhh

1st step is to ban holidays been carried forward, then they'll have to find time or face an seriously under-manned office in march when all the new bills start coming in
