reverting back to 5 day week.
is there any where in the new agreement (AFG) about scrapping 9 day fortnites and 3 weeks on one week off or doing away with 1 in four saturdays off. there is to be a meeting at ours next week discussing going back to a 5 day week. reps are advising us to accept it. saying it will cause job losses if we dont, and it will create or save jobs if we do??. we voted in these shift patterns and everyone is saying they wont be voting for it. reps said its a private company now, different rules? its also been mentioned there wont be a show of hands, indicating if its a ''paper vote'' it could be fiddled..also if it isnt voted in they'll start performance issues, which sounds like scaremongering. ive even heard people are being talked to about it on individual basis to try to sway their decision to accept. any high up union reps available? where are you dingo.

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
Whatever they want to bring in, they always trot out the old tried and tested line about "job losses" if they don't get their way. Sounds like your rep needs to spell it out to the office as to why they're convinced that management are ok in what they're "proposing"/trying to steamroller in. An agreement is an agreement whether the company is private ( it is only partially privatised no? ) or not. If they want something they're going to have to bargain for it and they hope that if you think you've avoided the threat of job losses it make their shitty deal all the more palatable.
Is your rep any good?

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
Something similar is going off in our office, it seems to be the rep who is helping the push to getting rid of 9 day fortnights, seems like the gaffers think they have too much trouble covering days off. Of course, covering full time duties with part time hours doesn't help.
I would have thought the 2010 agreement holds the field in this, and if management wanted to change things, a full revision/re pick would be required. Not some poxy vote in the car park.

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
you would have shorter days therefore you would need a revision for shorter walks

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
ive mentioned this and so has half the office. the rep says the walk spans will stay the same, (4.45). i cant see how, but they reckon indoor work will be reduced. (HA, F*****G, HA. ....BOLLOX) they've also dangled the carrot of a 100% full time office....wont happen. and even doing away with lapsing altogether. if it went back to 5 days it will be 7hrs 48 mins a day. 4.45 delivery, 40 mins break, 30 mins ips (or so they say) which would leave 1hr and 57 mins to clear down, put together d2ds, (4 sets can take 45mins to an hour) prep the mail in, redirections, kill offs, get specials from locker, load van up, go for a shite etc.......cant be done. but its being put to us anywaybringon4dayweeks wrote:you would have shorter days therefore you would need a revision for shorter walks

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
In our office the BT2010 had part time staff going to 3 or 4 days, now the t.urds have come to them and asked them to go back to 5 days for office savings(not coming in earlier so less indoor work
).

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
just got it on good authority today that we are definately going to lose these working patterns. rm dont want them, saying they are unworkable and it looks like we may not even get a vote....executive action by the sound of it. there is supposedly loads of offices have not got this option.....thats their reasons for taking it away from us. this was agreed in the 2010 bt. now they are unagreeing it. im f***ing boiling about this.....reps say their hands are tied. emailed the branch....no reply...no comment.....where the f*** is headquarters on this...they are doing what the f*** they like. Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
Management at the 1st instance can only forward proposals for the changes.
Then the branch/unit along with the members can discuss and respond with alternative reasonable and justifiable proposals
...you need someone to propose and second the proposals and lodge the proposals with the branch/unit reps, then it goes to management/cwu meetings and branch/unit meetings to discuss and ratify.
If the majority have a good reason not to give up 3 or 4 day weeks and have workable alternatives then there should be a reasonable prospect of keeping the 3 or 4 day weeks, but it must make business sense i,e there will be work available to do all the time - noone standing about coz no mail/ work

Re: reverting back to 5 day week.
are headquaters aware that management are doing away with the agreed 9 day fortnites and 3 on 1 off working patterns? its seems they are doing this all over the country....whats the score here then...do we have to accept it.?
