Am I being treated fairly?

Hi all,

Is it fair that my manager sends me a text to ask me to start one hour before my contract starting time? Am I obliged to do so?

Also, is it fair that most days I am put on a new walk and told that it won't take too long. However, it always takes me past my finishing time. The management always mislead me and I am not asked beforehand if I want to work overtime! Obviously, because I am new to the walk, I don't know how long it will take, so I can't ask to leave some of it behind. The full time posties say never trust the management, but they don't speak up! They don't let me know how long the walk will take...just shake their head and snigger.

For example, I was put on a completely new walk that took me 7 hours to complete on a busy day. On a less busy day, it took me 5 hours to complete. I thought...maybe I'm too slow....maybe it's 'cause I'm a woman and I work slower than a fit 20 something male! However, I was told that it took a guy who did it before me 7 and a half hours to finish!!!!

I did this walk by myself...there was no park and loop!

Is this fair or are they taking advantage?

7 hours is far too long get this walk tested properly did you have break if not get rep involved management take advantage of the weak it is called bullying if it continues see rep about b+h as no walks have been agreed to take 7 hours

Find out from your DOM what is the delivery span for the walk you are being placed on and advise him/her that you will be finishing your round on the delivery span and taking back undelivered mail. Ensure that you have signed out and signed back in and taken your proper breaks before leaving and during. If Dom states that others can do same walk and finish on time then ask to see previous returns and o/t already incurred.It will also take you longer as you will be unfamiliar with the round. If you feel you are being pressurised then consult your local rep to have the walk tested.

Your manager can ask you to come in early.
But, sending you a text is a bit rude if you ask me.
And no, you are not obliged to go in early.
Ask them to speak to you in person about early starts, the day before, so you have to decide, and reorganise other things going on in your life. Like sleeping.
Tell them that, unless they tell you the day before, you are not interested in OT. And therefore, it isn't worth them texting you.
They may ignore you at first, but just don't go in until your start time, and they'll stop texting you.
If they persist, switch off the phone.
