IT will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that much of Gloucestershire is flood-prone.

Tuffley resident John Fletcher knows this better than most – as these pictures of him attempting to complete his post round in Tirley prove.

They were taken in 1995 and John said: "The floods have been awful this year and I know what it's like to see it firsthand and to see how people suffer so badly due to flooding.

"My heart goes out to them.

"I was a rural postman for over a decade at Tirley along the river banks of the Severn. Many houses had 2ft of water in them every few years.

"Above and below are two pictures of me, a Gloucester postman attempting to deliver mail, in 1995.

"I was a Gloucester postie for over 40 years."
