Failing the changeover

Hi,

One of my friends who joined the RM as a postman on December had his changeover few weeks back. Unfortunately he failed.( He has about 2+ years experience driving a car but in the changeover he had to drive a van which he never done before)

1) Will he get another chance to do the changeover?
2)Or will his contract be cancelled? The guy is on 3 months 25 hours per week contract. He has received two contract extensions within 1.5 months and his new contract is till Sept 2014.(Initial contract was upto march 2014)

Thanks for the reply.

Thats not good news. He said the manager will decide whether to give him another chance after review his current performances and the report from the AA guy.
I seen in the forum that others got 2/3rd chances to do the changeover.
Maybe it depends on the manager?

I checked with the guy and he said the manager told at least he can work till his contract expires and if no second chance is given only the contract will not be renewed. Do you think he can work till September 2014 as his contract was renewed till that time?

I doubt his contract will be cancelled over this.

Its not always easy to jump in a van and drive it esp for a test. Nerves play a part. In the older days you used to get your mate to let you have a crafty go around some quite area before the test so it was less of a surprise.

Just get him to re-apply and as long as he was not considered dangerous I cant see why he should not get another go.

Prob have to wait in line though.

A bit of driving practice off road would be beneficial

I wasn't aware you could fail a changeover. These aa guys are only driving instructors and can only advise that you may need further practice. They are there to advise what you work on. Legally you are entitled to drive a van. Your licence will tell you that. There is no test to pass.
