Seniority on Duties help please

Post by gosickwithstress »

Should new starters get a automatic right to there own delivery rounds.

We have had our revision, and all been completed about 5 months ago.

The new part timers have been on the same duties for about 8 months. (3 - 4 of them on 30 hrs).

I can understand new starters being on the same duty for 4- 6 weeks learning.

But surely we can prep any round for them to deliver as required, And let

more senior people sign for the regular duties. Some of us have worked here for 10

years and don't have our own duties. This cant be right as we can prep any round for

them, Still leaving them 5 hours to complete any duty on a reserve as required basis.

I am still a reserve after 10 years on part time covering 5 rounds a week including these

duties. I had to cover any round when I first started and work elsewhere too.

I get asked to move off these duties when someone rings in sick and they work there day off to
cover there own rounds. Where is the seniority on this matter CWU please help ??? :pray

Latest - Also Just been told that we wont be able to sign for these duties if there is a Resign
as these are for the part timers, yet all delivery times are the same as other duties :left:

The manager is in no hurry to do a resign, I wonder why  Our CWU Rep does what ever the manager wants etc :arrrghhh

Sorry If you have all heard this before and I am sure we are not the only office where this happens.
This just bugs me. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. + I am Not having a go at new starters P/T we are all good friends etc.

Similar situation in my office. Some ft staff with 10+ seniority are not being allowed to choose a duty. But staff with upto 3yrs seniority and pt are getting a pick. The full time more senior people are having to go spare.

Not good when cwu went to court over seniority and won.

Delivery programme revision agreement: Phase 4 sign off clearly states A FULL OFFICE RESIGN ( EXCLUDING SPECIALIST DUTIES ) WILL BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO DEPLOYMENT.
So should have a resign already. This is in accordance with the business transformation 2010 agreement and also in line with the way forward agreement. As far as I can see in both of these agreements seniority still stands unless there are exceptional circumstances. Disabilities etc. Open up the documents that have been posted on here. I think you'll find all you need to know.

Been told because the hours don't allow, they have to put pt staff on duties and keep a number of ft as reserves. This has meant a number of full-time staff with built up seniority are not being allowed to pick. I don't agree with it myself, it should be seniority first, then let management sort out the issue around hours. Its not for the cwu reps to do and help management dictate when seniority is applicable. They should be fully supporting seniority no matter what.

So how would that work in reality?
If you make all your FT staff duty holders who covers them during annual leave?

More to the point, where was the rep to make sure the revision was going in accordance to the agreement ?

As part of a revision, all duties including day off and annual leave should all be worked in. This can on many occasions create new jobs.
Also, as per the revision, there should be a higher percentage of FT compared to PT.

75% FT / 25% PT ratio as per agreement. No provision was made for P/T staff to actually have duties. ( I stand to be corrected on this, but I cannot see anywhere where it states the P/T staff should be given duties ). Management have just decided that if a F/T postie leaves a P/T postie automatically fills that duty. Wrongly, IMO.
I think the clue as to" how this works in reality" lies in the job title, MANAGER. Unfortunately very few managers, if any, can do this. They have taken the easy option and we have all let them get away with it.
As far as reps being around when the revision is being done. Maybe it's the same as my office. He's too busy doing o/t or trying to protect his own P/T duty by saying that there doesn't need to be a resign.

i thought this was one of my posts i am in exactly same position it really annoys me because i often get into work and the guy whos round i am covering is in and i have to change i keep arguing that they should change as that duty is mine for the day but dom says no it is suitability and it appears i am flexible and a lot of people are not, i believe like yorself we are being discriminated against and we should take this further with rep and if no joy go over his head to local cwu office because like you we have had no resign since changes 2 years ago, enough is enough and i have told dom to sort this out i am awaiting his reply!
