Bands of rain are expected to move eastwards across the area during Friday bringing rainfall accumulations of 10 to 20 mm. With water levels already exceptionally high on the Somerset Levels, the public should be prepared for further flooding.
Active frontal troughs will move eastwards across the UK during Friday, mild, moisture laden air bringing further rain. Even modest additional totals are expected to worsen the ongoing flooding.

The public should be aware that there is the risk of ice on roads and pavements from Thursday evening into Friday morning.
Following showers on Thursday afternoon and evening, some wintry, temperatures will fall quite quickly to bring the risk of icy stretches, especially on untreated surfaces.

As it turns colder on Thursday evening surfaces will fall below freezing allowing icy stretches to form on untreated roads, especially where they are still wet from showers. The public should be aware of the risk of some difficult driving conditions.
Showers on Thursday afternoon and evening will become more isolated and clear spells will allow road temperatures to fall quickly around dusk leading to the risk of icy stretches. The showers may also allow some slight snowfalls on higher roads mainly above 300 m. Towards Friday morning temperatures will start to rise as outbreaks of rain spread form the west and this rain may be preceded by a short spell of snow on high ground.

Rainfall accumulations of 10 to 20 mm are expected over most parts, with 30 mm or more likely over parts of North Cornwall. With the ground saturated over much of the region, the public should be aware of the risk of further local flooding and associated disruption.

Southerly winds are expected to increase during Friday with severe gales to storm force winds likely to develop over Shetland later in the day. Gusts of around 70 mph are likely and the public should be aware that this could cause disruption to transport.
A frontal system arriving from the west will come up against a well-established ridge of high pressure over Scandinavia. With the ridge reluctant to give way, a very strong southerly flow will develop across Shetland. Winds should ease late evening as the frontal system moves through.
