taking my car

Hi there. I back this Royal mail campaign 100%. But I was wondering if someone could keep me right. I stay about 10 miles from my office and therefore a need my car to get to work. When I go out on delivery I need to take my car to my 1st point of dely and leave it there. Is this what the union want to stamp out among posties? If I was able to deliver the area I stay in I would just leave the car but as you know it isint as simple as that. With family commitments etc I would find it impossible to leave my car at home. I do everything else give my bags to driver, weigh my bags etc....

Soz Takeyourbreak this is just the sort of thing RM take advantage of, your self campaign of take your break give the work to driver and any thing else just with the intention of working by the book goes flying out the window. Sorry mate that is the way it is...

cheers for the reply turpin. I see where you are coming from. I was once told by my union rep that it was ok to take my car on dely as long as you didnt have your bags in car etc.....

I believe that as long as you do not use your car (for storing pouches)then this should be ok,only wondering though how you manage to complete everyday???
My car is left at the office and I pick it up when I return every day with the mail I have failed to deliver due to doing the job as instructed by Royal mail
I thought the idea was to not be dashing around our duties,not cutting across gardens,not sorting through the mail while walking,removing your pouch from your shoulder to get the next bundle etc......

Hi navy bob. I dont always complete everyday. We are told to leave our pouches at our nearest Post Office or leave the bags in the drop off boxes for the gaffers to deal with. This suits me as once I have left the office I dont want to see it again till the next day!!

why is it the same people at watford are doing the job properly taking breaks going out in the vans not completing others choose to go in cars to there 1st delievery point not coming back on vans completing delivery when will they learn to stick together its there jobs as well dont let other people fight your corner

I was under the impression that there was a car ban at Watford,has this been lifted now?

takeyourbreak . . . you say you NEED to take your car to your first call . . . . . . . WHY ? . . . .all duties are designed with any transportation needs catered for, so you should be supplied with a bike / van / conveyance to do your job, it's not down to you to provide a vehicle for Royal Mail to use.

Also, above is a good point about insurance, unless you have specifically arranged otherwise with your insurance company (and paid extra premiums) your policy will state "to and from a fixed place of work" so your not covered for anything else.

wild cat we have been told by our DUM that cars are forbidden you are not allowed to take them full stop, anyone caught will be subject to conduct code. So if persons are using them i am sure our DUM will be informed!!! As for the cracks issue it would appear that certain sections of deliveries are splintering and doing there own thing. A lot of people here feel that we were badly let down by the rest of the country and CWU hq when we first started the DO YOUR JOB PROPERLY campaign. we have had 15 weeks of no overtime coupled with the loss of pay during the strikes, to some the final straw, camel etc etc
