Floater forced to change hours

hey guys need some help as the DOM in our DO is forcing people who have signed for early morning floating duties to change their hours to late evening collections due to lack of training/lack of reserves.

This means their days off change and their start/finish times.

This surely can't be right since these guys have signed into a floater duty and therefore have built their life around the specific days off/ hours worked.

So my question is can the DOM do this? quoting operational needs . what argument do i have as union rep ?

He can do this but will need to use executive action (which is supposedly not allowed) but you can lodge a stage one disagreement to stop it, only reason you need to use is it's signed for duties and not willing to change

I would suggest you place the problem into the IR Framework .. that will stay his hand while the IR Framework is used to resolve the issue. The end result may be that the floaters are moved, but you will have given every chance for his action to be questioned.

Always use the IR Framework - it is designed for just this type of case where a DOM is hiding behind the 'operational need' excuse where other options may be available. It may prove that he is just being lazy and taking the easy option, as they like too.

when i mean change their hours this is for holiday cover only so they are basically being forced to be reserves due to lack of them. According to area rep the DOM can't do this, so ask for a stage 1 grievance?

another issue is the notice given was only 1 week, these guys have things planned in the evenings so can't do the collections anyhow.

did you do a resource plan to cover the xmas pressure period and new year period before the start of december?
