Down for 5 days a week,should be 4.

Post by hewittinspain »

I started in May on a 25hr contract over 4 days but ive always been rotared for 5 (32.5hrs) with one day off which could be any day and the other day off I have to put it down as overtime.
Shouldnt I have a say in whether I have two or one day off a week?Sometimes I fancy only working 4 days but im always automatically put down for 5. Iam a reserve so my duties change each week. Ive started getting a bit cheesed off because they conveniently had my days off this week.as xmas and boxing day. Ok ill get it back but I feel a bit shafted sometimes being fairly new. Iam in the union but im also only on a temp contract and sometimes feel a bit frightened to push my weight a little because of the contract im on.

I am on a similar contract, but only work 4 set days (Wed - Sat). If I come in on Monday or Tuesday I get overtime, but it is only if I want it.

In your case, since they are giving your fifth day as overtime, this suggests that you do not have to go in on that day - i.e. overtime isn't compulsory!

If you have anything in writing that says you are on a 4 day contract, that'd be good to show them when arguing your case. Your union rep should be able to help you though, I would've thought.

Personally, I'd also find it a bit awkward arguing this since I'm also on a short term contract (I guess that is what they are banking on - that we won't complain - would not do this to somebody on a permanent contract who'd been there years) - but I think that you are well within your rights to work your contracted hours!
