Can I ask for IHR?

Long story short, I have a back injury that is unlikely to ever completely heal.

Been off for 3 weeks so far, ATOS have said I'm not fit for any duties and haven't given a rehab plan, said stay off work. GP is happy to sign me off as long as I want, it will be at least 2 months before I can think about work. Having physio, and it's helping, but physio says it's a long term thing, take it very slowly.

I know if I go back to my full delivery duty, even after months of physio, it will cause a flare up again, and I'll have to go off sick again, and rattle through Stage warnings. So can I ASK for Ill Health Retirement? And if so, how?

I am eligible, I've checked. On PT, long term contract. Youngish too!

If you can get it that's great but I would try to get a new job lined up before you are given the IHR.

I would definitely take it. I have qualifications and experience, could maybe get a non-manual job that won't knacker my back. Enjoyed postying for while, but it's now just killed me, and to be honest grinded me down. It's too much, I don't know how the old boys do it.

The reccomendation for IHR would come from atos themselves. Ask them about it the next time you have an appointment with them.

sindba afraid you need to show you are a IHR case by that I mean only able to do so much, only able to achieve a certain pace and generally a dead weight for want of a better word, after so long I think you will find they will recommend you for IHR. Thing is you have to stick with what you can do and that way they will realise they cant squeeze any more out of you and so want rid. Oh by the way you can tell ATOS you would like to be considered for IHR as you feel you may do more damage and even have an accident that way you have a paper trail of your concerns and RM don't like paper trails

Problem is, the pain I've got will ease with physio, but not the underlying arthritic condition that's causing it.

So I could go back to light duties in a couple of months. Might manage it. Then a bit more etc.

But I know it will get bad again at some point with this job. Then I'd have to go off sick again. Repeat until I'm on a Stage 3 and get sacked with no pay.

Perhaps I should speak to my rep huh?

yup speak to rep but the point is don't go sick just turn up and do what you can, after failed rehabs they will want rid remember when you are asked to do more than you think you can manage get them to put it in writing otherwise stick to what you know you can achieve that way they have 2 choices either make a duty for you that you can achieve or IHR my money would be IHR because they are uncaring ba**ards

From what I've read its 1/80th of your final salary.

you usually dont get an immediate pension, the usual payment is as fishank describes, immediate pension is usually if its a serious work related injury that means you are unlikely to ever work again in any form of work
