changing walk every day

Had a big argument with dom today, i am floater and cover 5 walks but due to sickness the walks i cover so far this week have been done by the guys working there days off,i was not told till i came into work that i would be doing another walk now my argument is that people working there days off should cover the job need covering not there own(threre has been no resign since changes 18 months ago) i was told they are not trainedQ! i mean how hard is it they are p+l rounds some guys been there 20 yrs!! it means i end up with different partner and this has been much slower than normal partner and i am not that quick, why in this day and age cant these people change i do 5 walks a week they stay on the same every day how unfair is it? the manager just shrugs his shoulder and says thats just the way it is!! so basically the more flexible u r the more crap you get given! i have been postie for 6 yrs and am constantly floating.other people have started after me and stay on same walk, where does the union stand on this and can i refuse to change if it is not part of my floting dutie?

if you picked the floater duty you are right if they want to work there day off there are walks they can do. your duty is the floater on those 5 walks get your rep involved

asked rep and he says AS THEY ARE NOT TRAINED!! that it is up to the manger it is suitability apparently!! getting pissed off with this happening now every week

Does not sound right to me, posties working their day off should do the walk not covered saying that I suppose they would not come in if they were to do a different duty and there lies your DOM has so speak with your union and seek advice, I feel you should stay on the duty you are assigned to and not be messed about. thanks yes you are right app they will not come in if they have 2 change i will start to push with the union because everyone shd be more flexible if working day off but with our dom this could be a bit of a battle!

Our union won't allow that, in my office the regular has to ask the floater if he would mind swapping if the floater says no then the regular has to do a different walk or take his day off. Working rest days as overtime is not covered by operational needs. You should contact area union rep.

can understand ur anger at this but its not just the doms fault its the selfish posties who wont work unless they stay on their own duty you get them in every office so if its the only way to get them to work then managers go along with it and look at posties like urself to do the s**t job iv had this out many times with my reps who also say its wrong but do nothing about it we really need this sort of problem sorting out if people want to work days off then they should have to move to where the overtime is and not demand their own duty at the expence of others being moved off their duty

agree but it seems nothing gets done about this, there are 3 guys every day this week who have worked day off and i have changed,the dom does not see a problem with this mainly because the guys whos day off it is are too rigid and crap and panic if they have 2 change!it is a joke and we still have no resign(waiting 18 months now)so people on same jobs are not moving yet others like me are treated unfairly, i thought doms were supposed to treat everyone equal?

I know how you feel but for a slightly different reason. I have been a reserve for a year since joining RM. I have never done the same walk for more than 2 weeks on the trot. We recently had several new jobs move to the office which are 'dollies'. I and another reserve did one for the first week it was in, blind. It went well. The stress of being changed every week is becoming intolerable, it's like starting a new job every Monday! It's compounded by the fact that 2 reserves who have been there 4 months less than me have been kept on 2 of the new jobs for 9, yes NINE! consecutive weeks, nice and stress-free. I am supposed according to the manager 'to cover 5 or 6 jobs' and so far have learnt 12. I complained and when I asked why I kept being moved was told 'because you can do it'. What crap. I finished today Wednesday at 13.15 and couldn't go back to the office until 2 because recently when I finished at 12.00 on a Saturday the b******s tried to send me out again! Punished for being quick! Fortunately the driver had gone home and I refused to deliver extra from my car.
Sorry if I sound naïve here but I am relatively new to RM and haven't learned all the correct 'tricks' yet.
