The office rep is working his day off to compensate for the loss of earnings on Monday. So much for solidarity! I'm all right Jack, & everyman for himself rears it'us ugly head once again! To me it's hypocritical of him being on the picket line now, while others are losing money. So much for your rep showing you an example.

Is the office understaffed on that day?
Does he regularly work his day off?
Can he afford to lose a day's pay?

Your rep is only human. If he needs the money and the overtime is available .......
Sometimes we shouldn't judge our fellow workers too harshly.
Of course if one is unhappy with the behaviour of one's representative, there is always the ballot box.

I'm working my day off I am striking Monday and working day of later in week I gotta eat is that not the point
our union rep has not told us not to work days off to make money up is it not the point to strike on day of strike & if you can make money up in overtime it's all good , or am I missing something !
I know union want us to strike on strike days fair enough but to expect us to lose money when we have a chance of making it back seems odd , most posties in our office are doing the same

does not matter who wants to work there rest day as long as there on strike on nov 4th.it could be in your offices
intrest to have your rep in after a strike you normally find the managers have the hump after a strike especially if you have had a 100% walk-out.

maybe you could run against him & become the rep if you would like the hassle of it all. Reps are just the same as the rest of you, i bet when your rep is meetings arguing for you until way after his finish time unpaid you are not posting that on here saying i would love that job! unpaid travel,unpaid stress unpaid hours unpaid union work at home...... aslong as your rep strikes and is on the picket line leave him/her alone! Or throw your hat in and do the bloody job instead of criticizing!

Tbh I'd do the same it's actually taking the piss out of them, you obviously don't get paid if you strike but they beg you to work your day off so you can get the money back anyway, in our place they're short staffed cos they don't take anyone on for ages after someone leaves so they're always desperate for day off overtime takers.

But you don't claim 8 hours o/t do you , so you claim say 4 hours and royal mail have got 16 hours work done for 12 hours.
