We had a Union meeting this morning out on the street the RM would not allow us to use the canteen or the building in that fact and it had to be done in our own time how petty of them? Anyway the long shot is that the rep asked members not to work their days off the week of the coming strike and don't do overtime. He was a bit annoyed that half the members would not come out to the meeting because they decided it was bagging up time. Can't win...

rep should be careful there, he basically just asked them to work to rule without holding a ballot, could be seen as unofficial industrial action by the cwu

Maybe, but that "the rep asked members not to work their days off the week of the coming strike" might have been because members had been asked by the DOM if they wanted to swap their scheduled day off for Monday the strike day. and that does happen.

Maybe, but that "the rep asked members not to work their days off the week of the coming strike" might have been because members had been asked by the DOM if they wanted to swap their scheduled day off for Monday the strike day. and that does happen.

but that action by the DOM would be allowed, cwu taking unofficial industrial action could lead to court case and possibly even making the strike unlawful

no actually asked not to work day off or over time, thats very very close to work to rule which you need another ballot for, if he said lets all follow the "do the job properly campaign, take breaks not come in early etc" thats ok, but what has been posted by the op is very very close to requesting a work to rule

Agree Demon....The Rep was just reminding them of the CWU's long standing campaign to TRY and get Posties to simply work "Properly", i.e Start on Time, Take Meal Breaks & Finish on Time. Nothing wrong there. It would be a Very effective gesture as we all know most Offices rely on Posties starting early, working for free and cutting corners where ever possible.

thats not what the OP stated read the first post, he specifically stated the rep asked them not to work overtime or to work their day off, thats NOT allowed its basically a work to rule request, where are asking them to do the "work properly campaign is"

why are we getting stuck on semantics - its diverting the original intention of the topic. Neither side will agree, and we weren't there, so without a transcript its impossible to say with any certainty, unless you were present, what was and what wasn't said - perhaps we should move on.

a work to rule is unofficial industrial action and if a union rep is advocating it, that means that RM can take that union to court over it, it could very possibly even get an injunction against the strike because of it

See your point Z, I suppose you could argue that taking your rest day off and not working any Overtime is working "Properly"?

I'm surprised, with the increased workloads and larger duties, that anyone's got enough energy left to want to work their Rest Day! After all that's what it's meant to be for REST!

can i just ask how not doing overtime and not working your day off is deemed wrong?
