HOME owners in Wiveliscombe say they are waiting longer for their mail after changes to delivery services.
The Royal Mail has introduced new delivery methods in the town and surrounding areas, leaving some people waiting days for their post, residents claim.
But the service says it has received no complaints and stressed that the “bedding in” process may take some time.
It also said none of the six postmen’s jobs in Wiveliscombe are at risk.
Resident Ruth Irvine said: “We heard the postmen can’t deliver to every house every day as they don’t have time.
“People are all very upset and stressed about this.
“It’s so wrong, especially if you’re waiting for something in the post.
“The other day I had a letter and I had three days to respond, but by the time I got the letter it was past the three days.”
Lisa Bedding said: “I've noticed some changes and sometimes I don't get post until the afternoon.
“I've also had quite a few things go missing, too.
“Our local postie, Jim, always has a smile on his face, though.”
Royal Mail says changes to local delivery practices are part of an investment to modernise the business.
Bosses say there are now fewer letters posted with people choosing to send parcels instead – something which has been reflected in the changes.
Royal Mail spokesman Val Bodden said: “We recently made some changes to deliveries in the Wiveliscombe area which involved introducing new delivery methods and equipment over a phased period of time, allowing us to deliver more parcels efficiently and with less risk of injury to our staff.
“We need to organise our delivery routes to be as efficient as possible and we must also invest in new equipment to carry the increasing number of larger items we’re delivering.
“These changes do sometimes require a period of adjustment for staff as the changes bed in.”
Any complaints about postal services should be directed to the Royal Mail’s customer services department on 08457-740740 in the first instance so they can be logged and investigated.
