Urgent Information - Balfour Beatty/ROMEC Joint Venture Sale

The Union was informed in commercial confidence earlier this week about the possibility of “Balfour Beatty Workplace” selling their stake in the ROMEC Joint Venture as part of a wider sale of the facilities arm of their business. It has now been confirmed in an announcement today that Balfour Beatty Workplace has been sold to a French utility company called GDF Suez.

At this stage the Union has been informed by Royal Mail that this sale has no impact on the jobs, terms, conditions and contract of employment of ROMEC employees.

However, the Union will be immediately engaging our Legal Advisors to fully investigate the implications of the sale and any impact on CWU members. We are also seeking urgent meetings with both Royal Mail and the new owner.

We recognise this announcement will raise real concerns amongst our ROMEC members and the Union will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure our members are fully protected. Furthermore, this development strengthens our desire to press Royal Mail to bring all elements of the current ROMEC joint venture back under the full control of Royal Mail as the parent company.

It is essential that all individual ROMEC members are handed a copy of this LTB. Further information will be sent out in due course.
