It's decision time

Greetings one and all.
I have been reading this forum for a while and have also been a postman for a while, for 10 years to be precise.

Without going into too many details our centre is about to close.
We have the option of moving to a new centre at Heathrow.
This new centre will handle international work and it seems to be quite a secure job.
The only thing that worries me is there are about 35 different languages spoken and and white people are in the minority.

Now you can call me a racist if you like I don't mind but being in a minority worries me a bit.
The other option is to go on deliveries.
I have heard so many stories of deliveries becoming unbearable and walks becoming impossibly long.
park and loop not working and conduct code for the most minor infractions.

My question is simple.
What would you choose?
A brand new centre away from my home area with a pretty much guaranteed job for a few years to come but myself in an
ethnic minority or a local walk at a local delivery office.

Opinions welcome.
Are deliveries really that bad these days?

No problem about being in a ethnic minority its all in your head ,been to several events over the years only white man .
Do not go on deliveries unless you want a whole in your head ,you will regret it and long term not secure fulltime.

What a fantastic opportunity. I would definitely go to Heathrow, you are not being racist you are just anxious about how you are going to fit in, which is a legitimate and common fear. Embrace it as the opportunity that it is to meet new people, with the added bonus they have had a different background to you and so you can broaden your mind at that the same time by learning a bit.

If there are 35 or so different ethnic groups then all of those individuals in those groups probably had the same fears as you when they started.

What's the worst that could happen? you don't like it and get a transfer to another office....

Just because they speak a different language, doesn't mean that they will not be keen to integrate with you if that is what you are worried about. I am sure that if you make a little effort that you will strike up friendships, share banter and even extend their knowledge. Go with an open mind.

Speaking from 27 years on deliveries I would say STAY AWAY from delivery work unless you really want to test your fitness to the limit.

Go to Heathrow.

Take the heathrow job and see it as a chance to learn new languages and expand your mind!

Avoid deliveries. I have seen people crack under the pressure, this has spawned the 'sickness' - STRESS. 5 people off at the moment with it.

There might be some nice ladies to meet there, so do it. When I go dancing there is lot of foreign ladies and they are wonderful. Go for it, Delivery is too much hassle these days.
