An MBE for learning rep Parminder

Parminder Kaur, lead Union Learning Rep (ULR) at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre, Royal Mail, has been made an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for her services to adult education.

In her five years as a CWU learning rep, Parminder has enabled hundreds of her workmates to achieve qualifications in IT, English and Maths - but she almost missed out on her MBE because she was too busy helping others to read the letter telling her about it!


Parminder said: "I was about to leave to go to Bulgaria on a charity mission with CWU when my husband said, 'Parminder, there's a brown envelope here for you.' I was in a rush so I glanced at it and saw I needed to fill in some kind of official form. It wasn't until I got home a couple of weeks later that I actually read the letter and saw I was up for an MBE!"

Later this year, Parminder will go to St James's Palace to receive her MBE medal from the Queen. In the meantime, congratulations have been flooding in.
