What(if any) is the limit of specials a postman/woman can

take out on a delivery?
I think this has been brought up before(my apologies for this) and I believe I heard the limit was about 8 specials(correct me if I am wrong)...quite often me and my other colleagues take between 18 and 30+ specials (many small packets 'too' small for drivers to take, but large enough to half fill a delivery bag)and I am aware some posties send specials out in delivery bags to various 'safe' destinations as they simply do not have enough room in their first bag to carry so many specials...a planner was made aware of this problem recently and he was horrified... he also stated all specials must stay with the postman/woman in person. Not sent out to various 'safe' locations....and he would also find out what the limit is as quickly as possible and get back to me and my colleagues....weeks later we have heard nothing!?(In fact I get the feeling he has avoided us)......is there any agreement/document out there I can download in relation to this topic from the CWU?

I regularly get 20+ specials on one of my deliveries, but they are all for the same company anyway. Would it make a difference if you were still on bikes? Obviously you can secure them in a van easier than you can on a bike/in bags.

Its a CWU document but it is still valid and it points you to the Internal RM document that the information came from so the Manager can check it on his system;.

Do not carry more than the maximum number allowed. Do not expose yourself to risks. If it is a high risk area then refer to the “WalkSafe” threat assessment procedure as it may be necessary to reduce the number or remove these items completely on certain walks.

The important thing is that a Walk Risk Assessment must be carried out and such assessments based on local knowledge and previous incidents may override these standards to ensure the most appropriate safety and security protection levels are maintained at all times.

A maximum of 8 Special Delivery (SD) individual items per walk may be carried each day, of which no more than 3 may be higher value SD items, a maximum of 48 SD individual items per walk each week of which no more than 18 may be higher value SD items. Walks exceeding this standard number of items per week must to be Risk Assessed to determine the appropriate method of delivery and whether it needs to be motorised. Ideally collection and deliveries in town centre areas should be motorised.
