How do you become a sub rep?

Hi all
Was just wondering how you can become sub rep? Because our rep likes a holiday often and off sick a fair bit and they is no one to contact with issues when the Dom tries to take advantage and put things through without consulting the cwu. Also had a few issues with the Dom and the rep, we got on ok but the area rep is a pig and well in with the management. I have waited for an apology for over two months and still no apology. Maybe get a foothold in the door and go from there see where it can take me. I am all for fairness on all levels including duty fairness and overtime fairness in our office but again it seems like there's too many f**k you jack I'm alright attitude. I want to try and stop all that.

Also, do you get paid for being a sub rep? What are the perks at least?

Firstly you don't get paid for being a rep and there are no perks apart from helping out your fellow members :)

you can always arrange for a rep from another DO to come over or even the Area Rep if your rep is not around, that's what you pay your subs for and they will come over to you if asked.

why only become the Sub Rep?

just ask for a vote of no confidence to be put to the members in your DO and then stand against the Rep and see what happens. you may find that a lot of member don't think he is doing what he is supposed to do and would like to replace him.

find out what CWU area you are in and contact them directly and tell them you want to stand against your rep as he has been given a vote of no confidence.

Good luck, I have only been a rep myself for a few months and I enjoy what I am doing and my members seem to be happy with me as well :)

No sub rep is fine for the time being. I don't want to contact the area rep because he is a complaint arsehole and doesn't listen to anything I have to say he is ignorant and basically called me a liar. And then backtracked and said he will ensure things will happen but hasn't.

If you're looking for perks you really shouldn't be considered for the role.
Try World Class Mail,that might be more up your street.

Fishtank u have me all wrong. World class mail is all bollocks it's about getting things fairer from my point of view on all issues. World class mail is about getting little things done that don't really matter like stickers and posters rather than important stuff like resigns needed and overtime made fairer. I'm certainly not in it to be loved. All I asked was do u get paid for it and was there any perks. That's all

Fair enough.
The answer is no and apart from the occasional biscuit at weekly resource meetings...no.
I have to say though if you have a difficult relationship with both your rep and your Area Rep you won't be able to get much done.
What you could do is try to get as much experience as you can and then organise a (hopefully)bloodless coup d'état .

Infiltrate,Undermine,Displace.
Make sure you do it for the right reasons though.

To answer your question lfcgod1 ,be s**t at your job,be `friends` with the DOM or his number two,in fact be `friends` with anybody who has ever had one of them silly hi viz with manager on the back,dob your fellow posties in at the drop of a hat,come in early,either don't have your breaks or have loads(it's up to you!)
Oh and sell your soul for a few `golden` tickets to go to conference or important meetings about shite like the BT2010 or World class mail then be able to tell your fellow posties that it is a great deal.always here to help.

Sometimes thats the problem General, people are blind to their own "issues" and can't even apologise when they get something wrong. You accused this site of being something really low without even checking the facts, you appear to be doing the same with issues with reps, no wonder people are tetchy, I certainly would be. If you really think you can do better than reps or RMC then stand up and be counted, or perhaps just be a bit more constructive instead of making a thankless task even more thankless.

Of course there are crap reps, but that doesn't make all reps crap, there are posties that steal does that mean we are all thieves.
