It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Dependency leave and Parental Leave are two different things, you have a legal right to both, but RM dont need to pay you for either, there is also the special leave policy which RM have and in certain circumstances paid special leave may be grantedsilly suffolk wrote: parental leave is a right. its un paid though, unless your fortunate enough to get special leave with pay. Re: Dependancy days.
I know that we have a legal right to both dependancy leave and parental leave without pay which I can totally accept as emergencies do happen, where it starts to get complicated though and what I do not understand is how Royal Mail can give you days off without pay with no problem but if you want to use some of the single days you have built up out of your annual leave to take the kids to hospital appointments etc and you are happy to use them for this reason so that you don't loose any pay then suddenly there are major problems.
If they can give you the day off without pay no problem but not with pay using annual leave then this gives the impression that management are chosing when we can use our single days as long as it suits them and does not effect the office budget. Either way you are still going to get the day off, how can they justify this approach especially as it is going to cause problems down the line with a build up of annual leave through out the whole office.
