Returning to work - Rehab hours?

I have been off work for roughly 10 weeks now after being diagnosed with uncontrolled diabetes and I'm looking to go back next week. When speaking to my absence manager at my office she said I could start back on 4 hour shifts, is it possible to do less than this as I feel it's been so long that I will struggle at first?

You agree your rehab hours with atos and your manager cannot change what you agree with them .

Well i don't think that's strictly true maddog. Atos will give their recommendation on the hours to be worked, but Royal Mail do not have to abide by them, after all, they are only recommendations. Saying that, the return to work hours are put to you first at a meeting with atos, so you should be happy with them, and none of our managers have gone against the atos advice. Probably because we know our return to work hours before the manager informs us :whistle

So in theory you would recommend that I get in contact with Atos before I meet my absence manager? I haven't heard from them in a while, they've actually been pretty removed from the whole thing which is quite surprising.

Inform your manager that you wish to speak to atos before returning to work, and they should then arrange an appointment for you with them. After all it's in Royal Mail's interest to get you back to work as soon as possible.

Thanks, I'll follow that path and see what happens. Fingers crossed I'll be able to start back on 2 hour nights which would be a lot more comfortable for me.
