I started in January and have been on the same round since then, more or less.
Up until the last couple of weeks I have always had 4 or 5 days work. This changed last week when it dropped to 3 days (I have a 24 hour contract) and the same for this week.
I have to date, always done 'my round' on a Saturday and ensured all the door to doors are delivered by Friday, well at least 99.9% of them. To make Saturdays as light as possible.
This week I'm not on my round Saturday, so I have no obligation to bust a gut and get all the d2ds out by Friday.
The last working day on my normal round is Thursday, I'm off Friday.
My question is this. I understand I have to put out 1/6th d2ds, approximately 110 in my case Thursday morning. We have 5 this week, including a charity bag, so how can I calculate how much time I allocate to prepping the d2ds?
My duty starts at 06.50, there will probably be two boxes of mech mail. I'm on IPS from 07.20 and will probably be on it until 07.45. I'm due out at 09.20.
I would guesstimate to prep the correct amount of d2ds will take about 40 minutes. So what takes precedence, d2ds or mail?

Re: How to organise time.
Neither takes precedence. Door to doors ARE mail, as far as Royal Mail is concerned. If prepping either the mail or door-to-doors impacts upon your ability to complete your duty and you are unwilling or unable to do overtime (or, worse, if they are unwilling to pay you overtime), inform your manager at the earliest possibility and force him/her into making a decision (there is no decision to actually make here, but managers always act as if there is). If your manager asks you to leave the door-to-doors, laugh and explain that that would be wilful delay. If your manager asks you again, demand that this request be put into writing in the presence of witnesses. Which will never happen and will force the manager into making a 'decision'.

neither takes precedence, prep both and when it becomes apparent that you may not be able to complete your duty on time then you inform your manager and ask him what he wants you to doRudolph_Hucker wrote:I started in January and have been on the same round since then, more or less.

110 d2d in 40 minutes seems rather a lot even if it is five, thats roughly 1 d2d every 4 seconds, considering you are just collating them or putting them into frame, you probably find that it will take less time than that, i would gestimate about 25 min, there is a chart that details the expected times by amount of d2d but am not sure where it is

The chart is comedy gold, apparently it takes less time to prep each subsequent lot of D2D's than it does the first, the more you get, the less time it takes to prep each lotzx135 wrote:neither takes precedence, prep both and when it becomes apparent that you may not be able to complete your duty on time then you inform your manager and ask him what he wants you to doRudolph_Hucker wrote:I started in January and have been on the same round since then, more or less.

I would say 40 mins is too long though and agree that 20/25 minutes is ample to prep 110 of 5 lots. That's assuming you're not one of those tards in my office that puts them all into a double slot frame and pulls the mail out around them when tying up.

this week is fun iv got six d2d and one is over 1cm thick! double slots are fun!
did anyone one else get told when they first told us we was getting more then 3 d2d a week they would come pre prep'd in a pack?
no matter how much mail or packets we get now all you hear is, the time is built in to the duty!

Rudolph_Hucker, work to your time if they will not pay you overtime, don't come in early and work for free though like some idiots do in my d.o
i normally try to get my d2d in the frame monday if i get back before my time, then a lot can go on a tuesday when its quiet and lighter, then the rest i just take where im going over the rest of the week, by friday they are all done.
its about time we got a better deal for d2d! i get more then 3 most weeks

Re: How to organise time.
There's nothing wrong with that. It does not take twice as long to prep twice the number of D2D contracts. This is because it is only the time to collate the D2D that is doubled. Once you have collated them it takes the same time to put them into the frame whether you have collated 3 D2D or 7.OnAFlyer wrote: The chart is comedy gold, apparently it takes less time to prep each subsequent lot of D2D's than it does the first, the more you get, the less time it takes to prep each lot![]()
