Contract types

I was sent my new contract in december which said it was a long term contract. I've since heard that no permanent contracts or being given in our DO until after our revision is complete.

So what is a "Long Term Contract"?

Fixed Term Contract - As it says on the tin but usually 1 - 6 months in Royal Mail.
Long Term Contract - Outside Royal Mail it means a temporary contract longer than a year. Rare in Royal Mail.
Permanent Contract - Open ended contract which is ended by notice from either party.

As far as I was aware a long term contract meant permanent as there is no finish date on the contract, just a start date

Well my contract says' Long Term' which i got nearly 20 years ago :Very Happy
