Rep not consulting members

How do we stop a rep signing a local agreement when he hasn't asked what the members think? The Area rep has left it up to him and says we can't have a ballot on something which affects the whole office even though we don't want it but management do. Is there any way we can bring the rep into line quickly as all this is about to happen in the next few days.

Your area rep is wrong. If the agreement impacts on members within the unit especially if it is linked to a revision then all members and only cwu members should have a vote on it . Get in touch with your Branch Secretary and chair person.

Any decent Rep will always have one eye on keeping non CWU members informed and on the union side as it would be all too easy for management to split the workforce and damage the workplace and working relationships to the detriment of all.

Thanks for the replies. Problem is Dingo the Area rep is also the branch secretary. The issue is changes to start times especially Saturdays and is not linked to a revision, which we haven't had yet. A lot of members aren't happy as it impacts on child-care issues in the week and family life on Saturdays. Management want to implement it in the next week or so, do they have to give us 28 days notice ?
