A delivery revision at Liverpool South not only brought further efficiency, it improved health and safety.

As a city centre office, the team there tailored its approach to delivery methods so they would work effectively in its urban environment. Tasks like delivery to large volume customers provided a particular challenge.

With input from staff, health and safety officials, planners and union representatives, the unit took a common sense approach to the outdoor delivery method revision and implemented a solution tailor-made to its location.

‘Local knowledge was a huge factor in helping us get things right,’ says Jamie McGovern, postman and health and safety representative.

‘Under the original plans, we would have introduced more hazards to the walks, but by gathering feedback from our postmen and women who are aware of the local issues, we implemented a revision that was right for our area.

‘That means we’ve adapted some walks to the local environment and retained some single van deliveries. It’s also led to a huge reduction in potential hazards on the walks, as well as improvements in cost and efficiency performance.’
