Long Term Sick

Hi,

I have been a postie for the last four years. Due to being "as required" as my seniority isn't high enough to get a duty. I have been constantly been put on the worst deliveries which, with all the blocks of flats and set of stairs has taken its toll on my body. To cut a long story short I began to feel severe pain in my lower back and hips since November '12 and have been off work since. I have gone through the NHS system and am awaiting results of an MRI scan.

Today I had the pleasure of opening my front door to my Line Manager - He called by to invite me to the office next Thursday to meet with the Area Manager. He told me there were 3 or so others who are also long-term sick who would also be invited individually to meet awell. My friend (Also a Postman) has said in recent weeks we have had an outside consultancy in our Delivery Office watching everyones moves to see (presumably) where they can make cuts.

ATOS have told Royal Mail to persue my sickness once I have received my MRI results (March 11th)

I wanted to ask whether this was normal protocol to be invited in like this? And whether I am obliged to attent? And also what they may say, knowing that I can't give them any further news of my sickness until I get my results.


Sorry to have waffled on, but any insight into this would be apreciated.

I wanted to ask whether this was normal protocol to be invited in like this? No idea TBH but a few others on these boards have been asked to go in for a meeting whilst off sick.
And whether I am obliged to attent? No, Not at all.

I'm new but theres been a few threads asking the same Q's lately and those were the answers given.

Our local DSM was in recently meeting peeps who were off on the sick. Trying to "persuade" them back to work before their sick notes ran out.

More bullying, pressure and harassment. I find it very surprising that Royal Mail doesn't get any negative press on the news about this bullying culture, but then it's run by a government who are trying to privatise it, so I guess the news outlets will be wary to criticise it. Maybe Sky News would take up the case.

This has been happening in NI for years now, you need to learn how to play them at their game so that you continue to get paid and they can't sack you because you're injured.

I've had a bulging disc for a few years and now look likely to need an operation on my hip if I carry on in the job. I was fit when I started! Already looking elsewhere. Body can't take any more.
