Dear Union members,

I just wanted to draw your attention to the great piece on the Rowland Hill Fund;

and Dave Ward's quote;

"This Fund is an excellent cause and the CWU fully supports its aims and activities. We would urge all our members to give it all the support they can."

I wonder if you might consider e-mailing your colleague Mr William (aka Billy) Hayes to make a contribution out of the £17,298.54 (£29,560 gross) he took out of the union coffers for EIGHTY SEVEN days unused annual leave as detailed in the 2011 accounts? I'm sure some of the needy postmen and women, which the fund helps, could really use a holiday.

To be fair though poor Mr Hayes did have to pay tax and NI on the £133,000 he took in salary from union in 2011. Coupled with the fact he is the sole breadwinner in his family and has a wife and children to support, as he points out in his recent letter to me.

According to Hayes recent Voice column "money doesn't talk, it swears" - I'll bet he was cursing all the way to the bank with his £17,298.54.
