Team leader!!

Does anyone know what the role of a team leader is? We are getting mix messages at work and the work force seem to be being miss lead. Also how much work can an acting manager do ie pushing yorks around or loading lorries. I thought managers could perform 15 minutes a month. Is this correct?

They cant do any. Flag it up to rep if it carries on. Thats our work/hours that they are taking from us. If the USO is going to be affected then they can do some work but pushing yorks etc is nothing to do with that.

this happens all over the country and is never stopped, it never ceases to amaze me how there are always plenty of willing bodies wanting to become a workplace coach..how badly do they need an extra 6 pounds a day?

Team Leaders are what all line managers will be eventually, RM would save lots of money that way, then they might not need so many higher up managers

Managers performing OPG work

A meeting was held between XXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXX, and XXXXXXXX on 20/04/2011. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the forthcoming fully bundled revision and other office issues. Obtaining a 'true reflection' of where our office is prior to the fully bundled revision and beyond, and Managers' carrying out indoor and outdoor OPG work was discussed. Following on from this meeting another meeting was held between XXXXXXXX(DOM) and XXXXXXXX (CWU) on 16/05/2011 to jointly draw up a local agreement. The following standards have been agreed;

1. Managers will not take on any kind of OPG work, unless under extreme circumstances where the USO is considered to be under a severe threat.

2. A daily meeting will take place between the local management team and the local CWU Rep to discuss if there is a threat to the USO and of any need for managers to carry out OPG work.

3. Any OPG work carried out by managerial grades will be logged and signed off by the DOM and the local rep whenever (2) is deemed necessary.

4. A joint CWU/RM report of OPG work undertaken by managers at Delivery Office will be sent to the DSM and the CWU Area Rep providing a demonstrable account of what work was carried out and why. Traffic levels and staff profile for the affected days will form part of this report.

It's become common practice in our DO for managers to carry out OPG work wheeling in trucks, prepping, IPS, indoor work and delivery when necessary. Nobody bats an eye and in truth I thought it was part of a national agreement because I've remarked on it several times but the rep hasn't responded

How does that square with paying a manager £15-£20 per hour to push Yorks about?

This isn't isolated ft, it's everyday for one element or another or multiples. This has only been prevalent since the revisions and I presumed it was part of BT 2010 since we are often short of sorters because of the late starting part timers and when the new backless frames came in there wasn't enough staff for "porters" so the double preppers collect their mail. Getting anyone to give a crap would be a battle in itself.
