its wrong to separate the pension discussison from pay, when we are on strike is when we are strongest and will get the most out of negotiations. why leave this for later, and any other thorny issues? we need a total package to be settled.

Also see that we've dropped our goal to raise the pay of postal workers to the uk average, as the trade off for efficiency cuts - now the union leaders are saying htey are "prepared to be realistic" about pay and accept a rise that is inflation-level only. we need a rank and file movement, to make this strike decisive and deal with all the issues now and once and for all.

The union leaders cant see Royal Mail's game, it goes like this:

RM: dig your heels in and make extravagant demands 1,2,3,4, and 5

unoin leaders say no way

RM Stil dig in your heels and make extravagant demands

union leaders after a couple of months come round & creep back to the table (suspending strikes in process) and say ok to 1 but no to 2,3,4, and 5

royal mail toys with leaders, then says F off, we want 1,2,3,4, 5 along with 6 and 7 now

union leaders say no but then creep back to table, ok to 1, split the difference with you on 2,3 4, but certainly not to 5, 6,7 etc

RM pretends to negotiate, starts a process, wholehearteddly acepts the union's acceptance of 1 and maybe splitting difference on 2 and 3, but then says we want 4,5 + 6 and 7 and actually add in 8

repeat process till union leaders concede on 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10...

It doesn't have to be like that, we are a strong section of workers and we can have 100000s of public sector workers at our side to give us more power, but we need to take rank and file control of the strike!

hehe like ure thinking how Rm are trying to lure us - but with regards to including the pension arrangements - our pensions aren't just Royal Mail workers it also includes Quadrant, Romec and even a tier of management so its not just our pensions.

also yesterday had an area meeting and regional rep was there - the point he made with regards to pensions was that recently the government had conceded and guaranteed to protect the Nurses final salary pension - and he said whats good for one public sector employees is good for another - so instead of taking the pension talks to Dumb and Dumber theyre relying on the government taking our IA seriously and take heed of what we're saying on the picket line.

well thats how i understood it anyways :hmmmm
