Fixed Contract to Permanent Transfer?

Hi, I am in my 4th week as a postie on the standard 3 month fixed term contract. There is a vacancy at my local office which is closer to me for a permanent position doing driving. What would be the best way to apply for this? I tried to apply online through the find another role section on the website, got so far, before it told me I cannot transfer from a non permanent contract to a permanent one. The only other option on the website seems to be applying as if I don't work for royal mail, i.e online tests, interviews etc again. Anyone got any experience of this situation? I am reluctant to ask my current manager as I reckon he would be a bit annoyed at potentially losing a member of staff. If I need to go through the entire application process again then I will, it just seems a bit silly if I need to go for interviews and potentially induction/training when I already work for the company. Then again, the length of time the process takes, I may well have ended my 3 month contract by then!

may be an idea to go to your local office see the guvnor explain to him or her that you drive
give them your details it may advance the process a bit.but go to the office and have a look round,
they may be having a revision soon. good luck.

Go to the office and speak to the manager, he will be able to transfer you.
