Hi,
Can anyone please tell me if VR would be possible due to ill health? Or are there any guidelines?
Thanks.

Re: Voluntary Redundancy due to ill health
VR is paid when the company are looking to shed jobs. Ill health may eventually lead to ill health retirement if Atos and RM agree that you are incapable of carrying out a role within Royal Mail. Redundancy and Ill Health are two different events and the pay offs are calculated differently.

retirement on ill health grounds is different, requires atos and dom to agree.

Re: Voluntary Redundancy due to ill health
If your office has a resign that results in a number of VR's being offered, a person who has health issues might consider applying for it.
An ex-colleague of mine had an ongoing problem that he realised was likely to only worsen as he got older. He was having that much time off that he knew RM would probably take him down the medical retirement route, and with 24 years service, decided to take VR on far more generous terms than he would have got had he stayed and been taken down the ill-health route.
He's now paid off his mortgage and has a cushy office job, outside RM.
A smart move

So if you have a condition that's not being controlled by meds and making you take long periods of time off plus condition getting worse. if covered under the dda are they likely to offer IHR or just sack you when you reach stage 3?

I would imagine in 99% of cases they will avoid dismissal through attendance and dismiss through ill health retirement.royal male wrote:Good Question, I too am interested in this one as it applies to mePostal1 wrote:So if you have a condition that's not being controlled by meds and making you take long periods of time off plus condition getting worse. if covered under the dda are they likely to offer IHR or just sack you when you reach stage 3?
I really can't remember seeing anyone dismissed through attendance caused by an existing and documented medical condition.
From a pragmatic point of view it just isn't worth the grief, the potential risk of legal action and the bad publicity to them.
You can never completely rule out the actions of a really stupid manager though.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Thanks fish t I've recently been suspended on a completely trumped up charge by a lying twisted Dom and a couple of the Doms lying twisted associates in the office.fishtank wrote:I would imagine in 99% of cases they will avoid dismissal through attendance and dismiss through ill health retirement.royal male wrote:Good Question, I too am interested in this one as it applies to mePostal1 wrote:So if you have a condition that's not being controlled by meds and making you take long periods of time off plus condition getting worse. if covered under the dda are they likely to offer IHR or just sack you when you reach stage 3?

I have more than one or two decades of loyal unblemished service. So because I was Working for R.M. almost before the Dom was born, and don't need to grow a pair 'cos I'm one of the few left in our office that have some: they seem to feel insecure around me, and would like me out.
I had only a short suspension, I defended with the rep, and we blew them out of the water. NO CASE TO ANSWER.
Charges dropped: no mark to record!
I too have DDA applied to a condition, and this has left a very bitter taste, now off sick, and not sure where this is leading. Not long left to pension at sixty, not on any stages, I want out. IHR and a few grand would do

Sympathies jamdonuts, let it be known that you're struggling It's then up to them to do something about it. Keep a daily diary, especially of what managers you speak to about your work, and when. If need be go off sick again as you can't manage, and let Atos and Employee Health people get involved again. Eventually with your condition even R.M. might get the message. Perhaps!jamdonuts wrote:im in the same situation as yourself ,im working on after a heart attack and being diagnosed with heart disease ,the buisness has been great ,6 months full pay ,but now im back im struggling again ,back problems occuring regularly just basically knackered ,would be interested in a "Package" myself if possible ,
