'Snow Days' procedure query

Just a quick question - we had deliveries canceled yesterday due to snow / ice. Anyway, today the managers were going around new people in the office and those who can't say no telling them to do overtime (thirds of rounds) for free on-top of their normal round because they owed them time from the day we didn't go out.

Luckily most most of them didn't do it, but the key point is that although we did go home it was the DIM who said "go home". Most would have happily stayed until their finish time but weren't given the choice, it was just "go home and we'll see what tomorrow brings".

So am I right in thinking we do not owe any time at all because we were sent home? We don't have an office rep at the moment so it's hard to know what's right and what's not at the time.

Why do some offices get told to go home and others like ourselves not?

Answered by the question why are some managers lower than a snakes arse, and why are some decent people who treat staff with respect and get it returned.

still arguing the toss at ours, quite a few have already worked extra hours to make up their hours (sent home monday) before finding out they "may" not have had to.
funny thing is it seems that there wasn't much backlog and it all got shifted tuesday, so its just free overtime for the manager that he would have had to pay out with or without the snowy monday,
if they demand it back i'd sooner say dock my wage and take it from there
