Is NOT doing the job properly a form of SCABBING?

Post by The Sarge »

If CWU says go on strike and you do not you are a SCAB. If CWU says "Do the job properly" and you do not what are you to be classed as (apart from plain daft)?

DEBATE.

In this case no as it is voluntary and cannot be enforced. However, you can of course voluntarily believe they are strike breakers :Very Happy

If CWU Tells members not to take U/IA ( AS THEY HAVE DONE) would that make a member that crosses the picket line a SCAB.

Whatever not "doing the job properly" is classed as I think that CWU should take a tougher line than they have to date with members who refuse to comply. It is probably the single best weapon we have against the changes proposed by RM, costs us no dosh and (arguably) will cause more disruption than the strikes themselves.

Just think: if "flexibility" is untroduced will the car-merchants be happy to do another 2 hours graft cos they've got back early? I think not.
We CANNOT afford to NOT do the job properly.

Fair point. That was what happened in the last dispute. People that worked were in effect doing as their union told them.

This is one business where doing the job using it's own rules could bring it to it's knees. Why people don't realise this eludes me. If every single member of staff did the job propely, we'd win this little lot in about two weeks without losing a penny in pay. As for people coming in early, I don't even speak to them unless I have to. I don't socialise with them and if one of them collapsed in front of me, I'd step over them and carry on walking.
The Industrial Workers of the World. The union whose members never scab!

I think i know what The Sarge is getting at, i know at our office the ones that are doing overtime are the ones that dont need it, as far as i am concerned they are strike breakers they would sell their own mothers to get it, it shouldnt really surprise any of us after all this sort of thing has been going on for hundreds of years, Judas sold himself for a handfull of gold coins.

please remember that " doing the job properly" is not industrial action it is something that you are entitled to do, so if you do not follow the rules you are not scabbing just being a fool to yourself.

I dont think anyone is saying do not do overtime, if you are getting paid for extra work do it, just do not do anything for this crap company for nothing.
During the troubles over the last few Months,NO ONE should be doing OT!!!
That's my personal view.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If by doing overtime it allows you to support the strike at less of a cost to yourself then i say good on you! there are some people who are wavering because of the cost of these 48 hour strikes and ot will strengthen there resolve we need all the support we can get no matter who it comes from. :cfo :lfo

If doing the job properly means you have to go over your time you have 2 choices: A) Cut off B) Complete your walk and claim extended. Both these results are winners as you do not lose money, it costs RM more in OT, or causes major grief to local managers to do the cut offs.

Add all this up and RM may stop and think about ripping hours out of DOs. We need to show RM and ourselves that there is a VAST hidden subsidy of hours in the job caused by NOT doing the job properly.

Its a NO BRAINER.

I cant afford not to do overtime...theres absolutely NO WAY i could support my situation on the basic wage from Royal Mail, rent + c/t takes 2/3rds of my basic wage as it is...living in the south east is a darn site more expensive than living in the other parts ot the country.
