how do you replace the useless union rep?

how do you replace the useless union rep? I know of a no confidence vote but how difficult is it to get members to get on board? and how do you approach it/them?

try speaking to you area rep first, but i think you`ll find that no matter what the rep does aor says or even ask for, is just over ruled my the dim and his cronies

Elections are taking part all over the country at the moment, put yourself forward or nominate someone else who wants to do it other wise you can go down the route of " no confidence " thru your Area Rep or preferebly your Branch

there should be a notice go up on the union board at the end of this month regarding union elections , where you can put your name down to be union rep

The no confidence vote wont happen anywhere near the workplace. It will be at a different location probably at the weekend meaning cwu members will have to make a special trip on their day off to take part in the vote. In this way the cwu branch officers will ensure that the cronies and hoards of officers will outnumber those trying to rock the boat. To win a no confidence vote you are going to need 25 to 30 people willing to give up part of a Sunday and well organised transport. cwu officers will have transport/subsistence/meetings paid out of branch expenses.

Its a sad time when the fight is with our union and not with bad work practice. Its easy to say you have a bad rep, I say the same thing, I could be totally wrong but where I work our rep has built an empire with the support of a small minority, but they rule. I am sure this was not planned but its how its has evollved. Yet again in my opinion we need a new union. Will it happen, no, why, people can not be bothered. Is a web based union the way to go forward, this forum has been a great support to me and has helped to resolve issues, in fact this has replaced my rep. I would prefer to give my subs to here than the CWU, if this was an option I would do it.

Sometimes CWU Reps have to look at the big picture I'm not defending bad reps and have suffered from bad reps myself but when you become one and have to put yourself up for people to have a go. it is difficult.

I've been a rep and might become a rep again.

It's a really thankless task or rather it was for me. The attitude of the postmen really stank at times it was often along the lines of :
"You're our rep now it's your job to sort this out so go and fukking sort it"
And other things thrown at me were:
"You're abusing your position as a rep just to get yourself overtime" etc.

Another thing that really irked me was people who weren't in the Union having a go at me because of things like pay rises being delayed
while negotiation were in progress and also I was blamed for things that had nothing to do with the Union.

Good reps, really good reps are very hard to find as it takes a very special kind of person who sticks their neck out for other people
and does a lot of unpaid work on behalf of other people. I have met both good and bad reps and I have a lot of repsect for anyone who
tries their best to do things for others.

But I have to say at the end of the day I have found out more about the Union, Royal mail and the general big picture from this site
than any rep so keep up the good work fellas.

It's more a two way thing.
Members can be organised and educated by a strong rep and supportive branch so in some ways the strength is reciprocated.
A poor rep and branch will almost always result in disengagement and apathy in the members.
That also applies to HQ whose job in strengthening the union is to show real leadership and a willingness to walk through walls to protect the membership.

reps are all paragons of virtue with altruistic tendencies , OR reps all want to get on the full time release bandwagon and go on the piss on expenses as often as possible. you takes your choice.
