A few days ago I slipped on a wet pressed concrete drive and now having to have some time off. I had an amazing phone call from my DOM to let me know that I had contributed to the accident - by not reporting the drive as a Hazard!! and I am therefore subject to the attendance procedure even though it was an accident on duty!! How do I know a drive is hazardous before I slip on it???

Well I have to laugh - whatever next!!

we had a manager saying to report any HIDDEN steps on your walk.... its ridiculous,,, how are you supposed to know there is a step there if its HIDDEN.. where do they get these idiot managers from..

i had the same thing i fell on some gravel on my delivery and broke my ankle and was given a stage 2 for it and told it was my fault

Sidley, you have come to the same conclusion that I have mentioned on other threads. This is not a one off prat manager. This is being orchestrated from the very top, and I would imagine that they have a target and a date to reduce long term full time staff to a position whereby the business could afford to pay for the remainder of job losses through the redundancy system. It would take too long to reduce the long term headcount by means of the attendance procedure, alone, but to whittle it down to a manageable amount would or could be their strategy, and no doubt bonuses will be flying around for achievement at different management levels.
As for what we can do about this, unless there is a will within CWU and the membership for industrial action, not a lot, but on a personal level, we must all be very diligent, keep a pen and paper with you, make notes of EVERYTHING they say, keep eyes peeled for snooping managers, ib etc. If you have an accident, try and get witness statement, take mobile photographs if you have one, and as been stated on this forum on many occasions DO THE JOB TO THEIR SPECIFICATIONS. I believe self protection is the only way we can frustrate this constant attack on our jobs
