I have been 32 hour P/T permanent for 8 years and today was made up to F/T .
I ask the DOM about a new contract as I signed one when I started .
His reply was "You dont need to sign anything , you will see the change when you get your next wageslip"
Surely I should be signing some kind of contract.
Or can I insist on one?

They made a few up to full time from 32.5 hours when our P&L kicked in..then kicked them back down to 32.5 hours over the Summer because they hadn't been given contracts to sign

Got an extra 2.05 when P&L came in and all the PTers received amendments to their contracts (specifying the new hours) to be signed and returned. If your hours increase and you haven't signed anything, then the hours specified in your contract of employment will be the only thing you can guarantee. Remember, "trust no one" (in management).

How long until your next booked holiday, or what if you go sick? You can bet your bottom dollar right now that you will only get 32 hours holiday pay, with only a verbal agreement in place. All your DOM has done is make you feel obliged to work either longer hours per working day, or possibly an extra day per week depending upon your 32 hour work pattern, you might be doing 40 hours week in week out already with o/t... I bet your DOM is very happy.

Our rep told us that anyone exceeding the next contract threshold (22.5 to 30, 30 to 39) over a period of 6 months will now get a new improved written contract, although I shall believe it when I see it.

Get a written contract. I don't know about yours but in some offices, the institutional memory among managers and support staff is completely nonexistant.

make you you sign and keep a spare copy otherwise its not binding. on another note did it come in the post or did you DOM give it to you in person?
