team brief bombshell
Our rep stood up in yesterdays team brief and told us he had some bad news, the news being that royal mail are pushing for everybody to have tues off because that is the lightest day of the week and it will save money. If thats the case why cant they make it a saturday which is what 90% of the workforce wants,we were not able to ask him if it was just our office or country wide as it took 10 min for everyone to calm down and by then he had a meeting to go to.If this is true ( i see no reason for him to lie ) can you imagine the job losses, has any one else recieved this info.

Re: team brief bombshell
Tuesday would be the worst day to choose as it would make Wednesday even heavier. The sensible choice would be Saturday.
But as the others said, someone is telling porkies.

I would not be surprised if it were true if ALL Tuesdays were like today. Even I'm finished two hours early and that is unheard of!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: team brief bombshell
First of all i don't think there is a grain of truth in what this rep is saying but....don't be fooled into thinking that consent of the UK Parliament actually means a change in law.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:These are statutory. They can only be altered with the consent of the UK Parliament.
What it actually means in reality is the Secretary of State rubber stamping Ofcom's proposals.
Review of minimum requirements
(1)OFCOM may from time to time review the extent to which the provision made by section 31 reflects the reasonable needs of the users of postal services provided in the United Kingdom.
(2)A review under subsection (1) may, in particular, consider whether the requirements imposed by that section could be altered so as better to reflect those needs.
(3)OFCOM must send a copy of each review under subsection (1) to the Secretary of State.
(4)The Secretary of State may at any time direct OFCOM to carry out a review under subsection (1).
(5)Where OFCOM have carried out a review under subsection (1), the Secretary of State may by order amend section 31.
(6)The provision that may be made by an order under subsection (5) does not include the making of different provision in relation to different places in the United Kingdom.
(7)An order under subsection (5)—
(a)is subject to affirmative resolution procedure, and
(b)may include such amendments of this Part as the Secretary of State considers necessary or expedient in consequence of any provision made by the order.

You won't be able to keep the wallington system as you work 6 days and get paid 5 - the 6th day go towards your week off. If we lose a day then your not saving the 6th day.Darren Bent wrote:I would like to lose Saturday but would settle for Monday. As long we are allowed to keep wellington system.
I think you'd loose it unless you went to 9:48 days and worked all 5 - thereby being paid for 4 and working 5th to say a week off every 5th week.
Not sure I could do 47.4 hour weeks for 4 weeks straight even with an extra day off during the week,

An update on the above topic, after much digging it appears that our rep was at a confrence with one of the top 2 in the union and while discussing the days topics he made the comment " that in his opinion it wont be long before royal mail pushes for non delivery on tues", sorry about the false alarm folks, i put it down to over excitment on our reps part, due to the fact he had just met one of our exhalted leaders.wheresourmoney wrote:Our rep stood up in yesterdays team brief and told us he had some bad news, the news being that royal mail are pushing for everybody to have tues off because that is the lightest day of the week and it will save money.
