actual policy

Post by twobags »

hi ive got a few questions regarding working practices [1] if we threaten to cut off or say we are not likely to complete first reply from our rep usually is you cant they wont let you and talk of performance issues or they wont pay o/t so what is fact and what is fiction and is there anything i can download to back it up regarding cutting off and being expected to work over your time for nothing. [2] and what is this swings and roundabouts bo***cks ,we have a union meeting this week and a vote on working properly ,one of the problems in our office is lack of union back up and support . talking to our union rep is like talking to a manager you certainly feel like hes not looking out for you.

The below is the wording taken directly from the agreed appendix within the Conduct Code.

http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=12071" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT
Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.

AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY
If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone (telephone costs will be refunded). A written record will be kept. All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements, in writing, preferably in plastic card form if available.

Any members experiencing problems with Cutting Off should contact their local representative or their local Branch for assistance.
As for the swings and thingies, that term is used for the 30 mins flex agreement only, you don't have to flex if you don't want to,but best to try to have a goodish enough reason not to which will cause less bullying...

Also,get rid of your rep.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

30 to 8 votes in favour of carrying on the way we are and not getting paid OT for going over on the heavier days of the week. :arrrghhh

As a newbie trying to get up to speed on procedures, moans and groans, and general info on the job, I am mystified why people would vote to continue working past their finish time without getting paid overtime. My immediate thoughts are that perhaps they are too scared to rock the boat or put their head above the parapet. Would they complain if they had to come in on their days off without getting paid ? A slippery slope.

One would hope the union rep would get involved.

If your lot do not want your rightful o/t wages, please send it collectively as a gift to "ilovemyredtrolleyAThotmail.com" every Friday...

What's that I hear? You won't send me the money, yet you feel it is ok to act as volunteers at a charity doing o/t for free. :arrrghhh

" Delivery Methods" P&L revisions were supposed to be designed so that weight is taken off the shoulder and either LWTs or HCTs are pushed around the whole walk to deliver the mail items in inside your contract hours, having taken your meal relief entitlement; prepped the frame; replenished the trolley at a bag drop or two etc. In the likely event this is unachieveable, you do not start cutting corners or working for free to get the walk complete, do the job right (saving/creating jobs) and choose whether to do the o/t for extra payment or follow cut-off procedure.

As a consequence of most of the office coming in early, working through breaks, not using trolleys, doing D2Ds on Saturdays, etc the DOM has decided we can now Winter lapse!

Well done lads! :Applause

But of course and am sure you well know. If you cannot complete , then you have a choice. Cut or extend. If they will not pay then do not extend.

I can fully understand why some people will let RM screw them over ; because they are on short term contracts and worry about them being renewed.

I cannot understand ; nor forgive , the full time (esp 40 hrs) that carve up the job , not take breaks etc etc (a well rehearsed mantra) and then moan that lapsing /absorption has reared its ugly head. Effing idiots!!!!!

One would beg that people do the job properly. But it wont happen. No matter what is put on some people they will do it and still finish early!!! Is there a circle about to be closed here?

At what point ; no matter how fast you run , no matter how early your come in , no matter how many breaks you don't take ; do you fail?

At that point the DOM knows he has screwed as much out of you as possible. Just pity the poor bastard on that walk after you.

My little rant over.

I suppose people can vote on anything they like, but I cant believe it overrides your personal right to paid overtime and/or working your hours. Stuff the 30 minute flex rule - I never do it as a matter of principle because of all the times linos have fiddled the O/T sheets.

It doesn't.
Some things can be agreed locally but you can't put something like this to an office vote because it has no national framework to underpin it,in fact since it undermines existing national agreements any rep endorsing it could find themselves in trouble with the union.
It would not be considered a valid local agreement and could not be enforced.
Of course if you agree to go along with it you more or less deserve all you get.

If, (assuming I have understood this correctly) they are finishing early on light days and not claiming o/t on the heavier days (no o/t claims on heavier days, no lapsing on lighter days) why don't they just alter the longs and shorts to reflect the reality of the working week?
Take 15 minutes from Mon/Tues and add them to Thurs/Fri or whatever?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I've no idea but that would seem the sensible option, oh wait this is RM!

EDIT: And those who do make a stand either end up getting sacked for some little discrepancy (PTs) or life is made very hard for them by having their round become one of the lapsed ones (FTs).
