Taking car out?

Walked in this morning done my usual on the ips then back on my frame to box up the rest of my walk. Partner (part-time) that i had this week has not been bothered about overtime untill today when he said to me "I need to take the car today as i've got something on and need to finish on my time". I replied by saying ok but don't take your car...his reply was..."and why not everyone else has said its ok for me to take a walk out without pairing up on a saturday"

By this point i was going to give up on this guy. Spoke to the union rep about my issue and he advised me to stick with the pairing up of the duties and for him not to take his car. I could of got in deep crap if something went wrong (lets say someone collided with him) and i knew about it. The doms would probably question why both duties were not paired up and why did no one approach a manager about the issue.

Thankfully enough it never happened and told him i could work from the pouch boxes and he could use the van to get round quicker. Still had to do lapsing this morn and so did my partner who had a bit on the other side of the town. Now what gets me is the union rep told him not to take his car, and i told him from the very start...and the manager well....told him he could take his car for the lapsing bit as its heading towards his house

I wouldn't have thought it was your responsibility if the guy got into difficulty by using his car... Do I take it that you folks do not have the same lapsed walk and when do you do the lapse - at the start or end of your rounds?

The bit about Overtime is kinda superflous or not well explained.

The other thing is that, with some of the pairings, one of the walks might be a little bigger than the other one. So, who has the bigger round? If my partner choose to go solo, I'll be happy asa little more of my round was put unto his than the other way round.

Once delivery methods (P&L) have been introduced, private cars are NOT allowed to be used !

RM's 3rd party insurance cover has been REMOVED, the person would effectively be driving without insurance.

Also they would be driving without RM's permission and would be subject to the CONDUCT CODE

Any manager who authorised this & the vehical operative could be subject to criminal proceedings as they have NO RIGHT to countermand an instruction from RM's executives / legal department

Also now you could get conduct coded as well. Guilt by association. It what they do in our DO. If you know or could know about it, or even if you dont ( they say you should of) then you are classed as guilty as well.

LTB 633 /12 - Unauthorised and Illegal Use of Private Cars on Delivery - Warning

Salient Points are:

All delivery revisions will be planned on the basis of no use of private cars. Private cars on delivery will cease upon the deployment of a Delivery Methods revision in a unit."

At that point all authorisations and insurance cover are withdrawn. It would therefore be a serious Conduct Code, disciplinary offence for the DOM and DSM to allow and encourage staff to continue using private cars on delivery, placing the individuals at risk, other road users at risk and the business vicariously liable.

I hope your DOM knows that it there is an accident in a PCOD he may be disciplined/sacked, or in the worst of all cases may be found guilty of Corporate Manslaughter.

I didn't think they were covered either but my DOM says he has 'business insurance'
i've told him that i don't think he's covered for transporting mail & people but not taking notice.
