Covering days off / pay question...
Hi everyone, just wondering where I stand on this.... (part timer who does a bit of prepping now and then as overtime)
Covered a couple of jobs this week, while the normal duty holders were off, where you get extra prep time because they're bigger than others. DOM tried to say that because the traffic was "light" I wouldn't get the normal prep time I usually do on those rounds.
My view is that if the normal duty holder was working that day they would have got it (as they're full timers) so why shouldn't I? Plus it took me just as long because of the amount of recordeds and such I had. Can he pay me less than the duty is documented to receive?

If you worked 6 hours, you should be paid 6 hours
If you worked 8 hours, you should be paid 8 hours.
If the duty you were covering was meant to have an 8 hour day, but you only worked 6, you get paid for 6.

Yeah you get paid for what you work. In my office all staff working days off get paid 6 hours regardless of contracted hours.

Just to add though, if he came to you today and asked you to cover a 8 hour shift tomorrow and you said only if you pay me the full 8 hours regardless then you would be entitled to it as long as you have it agreed (preferably in writing) before hand

I used the full time allocated, reason being although it was "light" (not as light as he makes out) it's a frame I dont know, and a round I only walked a couple of time so I'm slower than the normal person who does it. I'll wait and see what my pay slip brings

Re: Covering days off / pay question...
they tried paying only 6 hours for working your day off in my office and i stated that as they were eight hour duties, and that they had been optimised, they paid the full eight hours
i won the argument
this is basic rep stuff, why is it happening at all and not stopped in its tracks

Well if PT are expected to do the duty on 6hrs it is not unreasonable to expect ft to do the same on their days off. As far as I am concerned overtime is optional and if I don't like the terms I will refuse it. This is what I and nearly everyone in the office has done and so they just get staff loaned off other offices instead.

Well if PT are expected to do the duty on 6hrs
why is that then
is it they get managers to throw the walks off first, then call in the PT to do the delivery

Our leave reserve and day off guy are both on 35 hour contracts, but when they cover a full time contract for that day they are paid the same as the full timer.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

On 6 hrs they do no IPS so that leaves 1.5hrs for indoor work, 4hrs delivery and 0.5hr break.millitant wrote:Well if PT are expected to do the duty on 6hrs
