Further to earlier correspondence, the CWU Report Booklet "Children and People Injured and Killed in Dog Attacks" has been updated and a pdf file version copy of Version 6 is at link http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... LTB529.doc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
The contents include graphic images of Dog Attack victims injuries including very young children and people are warned before reading it the sections of the report are as follows:-
· Introduction: Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) 1991 - 2011 Facts,
· The CWU Bite-Back Campaign, Key Facts and Figures.
· Section 1 - Dog Attacks on Children
· Section 2 - Fatal Dog Attacks in UK - Children & Adults
· Section 3 - Dog Attacks on Postal Workers
· Section 4 - Dog Attacks on Police
Contributions have been made by Gareth Pritchard Assistant Chief Constable of North Wales Police and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) lead on dangerous dogs plus Gavin Grant, Chief Executive of the RSPCA, both of whom support the CWU 'Bite-Back' Campaign.




Version 6 contains new sections on Postal Workers attacked and Police Officers Attacked. Sadly a further 8 reports on attacks on children are also added.




The Report looks at the Introduction of the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) 1991 - 2011 - the Facts and How Effective has the existing law been, the Breed Ban a failure, Prosecutions and Penalties, the current legal loophole involving dog attacks in Private Places, the problem facing Postal Workers and the scale of the current dog attacks issue, the growing Status Dogs issue the slow and expensive justice and is the lack of a preventative legal measures in the current law and the suggested way forward. Key facts and figures are quoted in the report and the CWU 'Bite-Back' Campaign objectives.

The hard hitting report was designed to bring home to people the scale of the current problem and the results of irresponsible dog ownership in the UK plus the urgency of the need for positive, radical government action. In that regard it has been very effective.
Hard copies of the report can be obtained on request from the Health, Safety & Environment Department.

Whilst indeed graphic in nature it is nonetheless recommended reading and viewing for all CWU health and safety representatives. Always handy to download and retain a copy and then for showing a printed off copy to DOM's or line managers, who are shall we say slow on the uptake of dangerous dog issues in respective delivery offices.
