CWU on Post Office Mutualisation



CWU broadly welcomed the Government's report on Post Office mutualisation, published on Wednesday, but has concerns as the future financial sustainability of the Post Office is far from assured. Commenting, general secretary Billy Hayes said: "Today's report paints a positive future for the Post Office, but the suitability of a mutual model is still unclear."

STERIA members urged to accept 2%

Voting begins today in a consultative ballot over STERIA's final pay offer of 2%. Members are being recommended to accept the fully consolidated deal, which applies across all CWU-represented grades in light of the challenging economic conditions in which the IT company operates.

CWU gets Plusnet dog advert pulled


CWU has secured the retraction of Plusnet's TV advert, which shows a postman being attacked by a dog. Promising to withdraw the advert by July 12, Plusnet CEO, Jamie Ford apologised for causing offence. Dave Joyce, CWU health and safety officer, called this development "a small moral victory for all victims of dogs attacks" and urged the Government to take action by strengthening the laws governing dangerous dogs.

Mount Pleasant nursery saved!

CWU's campaign to save Mount Pleasant nursery at Royal Mail's Farringdon site in London has been won following months of campaigning by the union, postal workers and the families which rely on the facility. "We're elated that this crucial facility has been saved," said CWU equality officer, Linda Roy.

Wales TUC elects CWU’s AJ Singh as president

South East Wales branch secretary, Amarjite Singh, has been elected president of Wales TUC. "AJ" - as he's known to friends and colleagues - has pledged to "progress the equalities agenda and move forward on organising and recruitment." Congratulations and all the best in this role AJ!

75 years of 999 celebrated in style

CWU members at all the BT sites which handle emergency calls marked the 75th anniversary of the 999 service last Friday. "This anniversary is a milestone in BT's history and at the CWU we're delighted that the company has gone out of its way to celebrate the vital public service that the 999 service represents," explained CWU assistant secretary, Sally Bridge.

CWU welcomes ‘good news’ from Royal Mail

CWU welcomed the ‘good news' from Royal Mail's financial results released last Friday. Indicating increased revenue and rising operating profits, and, although letter volumes have declined, delivery of parcels and packets each increased by equivalent percentage levels. Dave Ward, deputy general secretary, called this "good news for the industry, the public and the workers who serve them."

I think it's a good idea.
It probably could be doing with a little intelligent targeting if anything.
Throwing everything at members might be a turn off.

Yes you're absolutely right of course - it's full of things that are absolutely essential to my well being, the fact that the creche at Mount Pleasant is staying open, someone is being urged to take a below inflation pay rise, that the Post Office, which will no longer be part of the organisation we work for, is being "mutualised"...............great..........BUT what relevance is it to 99% of us? I'd rather read about what is being done to combat bullying and harassment, the ignoring the use of equipment on revision, the ignoring of BT2010 by management...............you know all those mundane facts that are part and parcel of our everyday life. I don't want them to be silent I want them to address the real issues.

Yes of course it was You know me only too well Although there is some substance to the rant for example: someone has just posted having emailed various union dignitaries about the procedure for the use of equipment on P&L and had no reply...........................
