New Contract

A new contract from RM came in the post today for another six months. Some wording in it does concern me a bit but it is more work even for a short term period. This is what concerns me...

"Subject to Clause 13, your appointment will be for a fixed term, commencing on 24/07/2012 and expiring on 24/01/2013. The reason for your contract being for a fixed term is that it is anticipated the requirement for your employment is likely to cease on or about the expiry date because of business reorganisation."

What does that mean? Do you they think they are likely to get rid of me in January? Or is it just to keep me on my toes and to cover their back? I would have liked something a bit more permanent admittedly. Is this the norm in 2nd contracts or is there some kind of business reorganisation planned early next year and those first in are first out next year?

It means nothing.
All fixed term contracts must contain an expected expiry date and the most likely reason for that expiry.
It's just some legal ass covering.

Thanks, I was hoping that was the case, I know the days of a job for life are long gone but given how short my office is for staff most of the time and I've done (I think!) a pretty decent job so far I was hoping this kind of thing is bunged in all contract extensions!

your contract won't end unless your office goes through a revision and cuts staff that way

hopefully that is highly unlikely given how short we are most weeks! But me mind is at ease for the next 6 months anyways!

My contract was ended a week before it was due to finish . 'Summer Savings'/'Over-Staffed' was mentioned however yesterday had mail delivered to my house for an estate down the road by a manager from another office
