Office requesting staff : Advice please
Hey guys, basically our DO will be doing summer lapsing therefore two staff are being requested / forced to move to another office to help cover their shortfall of staff.
I am closest to the office requesting and I am on a temp 3 month rolling contract, 3rd from bottom in seniority.
My questions are:
1. Do I have to go?(I was under the impression this is voluntary)
a) what is the notice period they have to give?
b) How do i get out of it or make it hard on them?
2. How do they choose who goes? I am third from bottom in seniority so does that make a difference?
3. As i've already been to other DO's (2 last year) i find it unfair that I have to go again shouldn't it be spread around?

If I'm reading your post correctly then YES unfortunately. We've had the same sort of thing in this office and temp contractors have been shoved off to other offices. NEVER would have happened back in the day but as Bob Dylan sings "Times are a changin''"Stella102 wrote:Hey guys, basically our DO will be doing summer lapsing therefore two staff are being requested / forced to move to another office to help cover their shortfall of staff.

I think they can force you to work in another office but you can insist on starting and finishing in your own office it is your managers responsibility to get you there and back during your working hours

I would not put a harrassment complaint but you could fill out a grievance form stating you believe you are being unfairly treatedStella102 wrote:Can i put in a harassment thing because no one else is getting asked to do it, seems to be me every time?

This should be agreed with your Rep. You would start work from the time you arrive at your current office, you then ask your manager how he will get you to the parent office,it is his responsibility to get you there.
When finishing at the parent office you must allow sufficient time to arrive back at your current office within your contracted hours. If you use your own vehicle then you would claim travelling expenses.

It's not as bad as you think - I know it's a bit worrying when you don't know the area or office and so on. But if you think about it - say you're on a 5 hour a day contract, 30 mins there and 30 back takes you down to only 4 hours of work. Then there's your break and the tieing up and traveling to your first loop in an unfamiliar area. You'll probably only do 2/3's of a round and get paid the same as doing a whole one in your own office. Plus expenses if you travel there in your own car.

While I agree that if asked to transfer to another office for a day, the start and finish time is at your parent office.
If however you are being temporarily moved on a weekly/monthly basis I'm not sure that stands.
I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me/provide a link.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

the transfer will be for the entire summer period and they won't give travel allowance as i live closer to this office than mine so they get a cheap deal. I'm on 6 hr 30 min contract per day 32 hours a week over 5 days.

You still get all the perks even though it is for the full summer period. Even though you are being transferred you will still be tagged to your current office.

If I were your Rep I would make sure that the time spent at the parent office was swapped around all current temp contract holders. Don't forget that for you a transfer for the summer period is better than your temp contract beig suspended.

It's volunteers first,then reserves.
It's phase 2 of P&M...
You can't have one without the other, you can't let the screws pick and choose what part of the agreement they want to enforce.A good rep should be able to sort this easy peasy....

I would 'personally' argue the parent office thing, start and finish there, and i would also want to know whether extra holidays are available due to the lapsing...Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU
locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and
reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted
hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and
subsistence arrangements.
Both my quotes are in phase 2 and one comes after the other in the agreement.Efficient Summer staffing – each unit will utilise the opportunity offered
by reduced traffic volumes to re-arrange responsibilities during the
summer period. This will offer employees additional opportunities for
leave during the same period.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
