Just a quick question.
I have got training in st john ambulance next weekend, my managers know how much it means to me.when I asked for the time off for training they replied that I had to work saturday, which I am not contacted for.i an only a monday to friday evening collections postie.i ask for overtime, but latley ive had none.only saturdays.every single week I work saturdays as overtime.my manger said that no one can cover the saturday shift so I cannot attend a very importawnt training course.can someone tell me what my rights are.

is your duty M-F?
is the Sat scheduled attendance?
as a side note, you are contracted to work the hours specified over 6 days (M-Sat) on any shift. There are no M-F contracts, there are no Tu-Sat contracts etc, only signed duties.

My duty is monay yo friday,collections as there are no evening collections on a saturday this is 17.5 total, which was my starting contact, they then offerd me 20.5 do work one day a week in the morning, after my daughter was born 19 months ago they decided that round was to be split.giving me 3 hours float...so they pick and choose the day to work extra, wich should technically be within my mon to fri contact.?

Saturday is training.saturday is the day I'm not contacted to work.but they put me on prety much every saturday because they need people to cover, they dont ask. They just do it.

Then there is no problem as overtime is voluntary,you have done your fair share,not doing it for one day is their problem.

That's what I thought.but scince "theres no one else that can cover it" then he said I cannot do my course. this has happend in the past and I'm fed up now.if I say anything they use it against me when I ask them for extra hours during weekdays.saying "you turn duwn overtime when we give it to you" makes me angry

Don't get angry,just don't go in,they can't force you to go in.
And if they are always short,the overtime wont dry up in a hurry.
And if you can't finish your duty and they won't pay then you don't finish.

No one else to cover is HIS problem not yours,
if you have done all your contracted hours then you do not have to cover Saturday,
overtime is voluntary!!!
you let him know that your sorry but you will not be in on sat, he can't force you.
